In order for you as a customer of SAR to receive last refund payment, used oil must be delivered to us no later than 1 November 2024. The government proposes to discontinue the reimbursement scheme for spent oil from January 1, 2025, and the last payment will occur in December 2024.
After 30 years of financial incentives for the supply of spent oil for approved treatment, the evaluation shows that the scheme has achieved its purpose -- the costs now exceed the benefits. The collection rate of spent oil is nevertheless expected to remain high.
Positive developments in waste management
In the past 30 years, awareness and procedures for dealing with hazardous waste have improved significantly. All producers, both companies and individuals, who generate hazardous waste—including used oil—are obliged to supply this to private or municipal waste receptacles approved for such waste.
