Classification

Waste code: 7042

Suggested EWC codes: 140603 (Non-halogenated organic solvents) 160508 (Glycol-containing waste)

Hazard class: 3

Packing group: II

UN no.: 1993

Several EWC codes and transport classifications fall within this fraction. Determine the correct classification for your waste using the safety data sheet or contact SAR for advice. *EWC 160508 (glycol-containing waste) is normally not subject to IMDG/ADR.

Packaging and shipping

Laboratory chemicals should be kept in their original packaging and packed in UN-approved cardboard boxes with vermiculite. Larger consignments of glycol can be sent in bulk. Waste containing large amounts of water should not be mixed with waste containing smaller amounts of water.

Recycling and processing

Non-halogenated organic solvents are used for energy recovery.

Requirements and criteria

Solvents must be packaged in UN-approved, leakproof packaging, such as tight-head drums, jerrycans and IBCs. Waste with different UN numbers must not be mixed.

If a data sheet is available, it must be attached to the declaration.

Further information

You can check whether substantial amounts of paint are mixed into the solvents by inserting a dipstick into the drum. If there is a layer of paint approximately 5 cm or more thick, the waste must be declared as paint.
