Oily absorbents, sludge, filter cloths, shaker screens and oil filters are normally not subject to transport classification for either sea or land transport. Several EWC codes and transport classifications fall within this oil and grease waste fraction. Determine the correct classification for your waste using the safety data sheet or contact SAR for advice.

Packaging and shipping

The waste must be sent in intact, leakproof packaging, such as drums and IBCs. If the waste is classified as dangerous goods, UN-approved packaging must be used.

Recycling and processing

Oil-contaminated material is used for energy recovery.

Requirements and criteria

Oily waste from oil and gas production must be tested for radioactivity before delivery. Oily hoses must not be mixed with other oily waste due to subsequent handling requirements.

If a data sheet is available, it must be attached to the declaration.
